Why flow rate matters: an undersized system drops your shower pressure every time two taps run at once. Match the system’s service flow to your home’s peak demand (roughly 6–12 GPM for most homes), not just the headline peak number. Manufacturers often publish only one of the two, where only a peak figure exists, treat it as the ceiling, not the working flow.

Data notes

  • Flow figures in GPM. “Service” is the rated continuous working flow; “peak” is the maximum the manufacturer rates.
  • Pressure-drop figures are rarely published, most rows have none, which is the manufacturer’s omission, not ours.
  • Cartridge-based systems have no tank; softener grain capacities and max hardness are in the row data where published.
  • One conflict flagged: retailer tables list the SpringWell CF4 at 12 GPM while SpringWell’s own spec sheet says 11 GPM, we use the manufacturer figure.
  • No hands-on testing. Figures come from manufacturer spec sheets, manuals, and published retailer spec tables.
