Why we started it
Shopping for a whole-house water system is one of the worst buying experiences in homeownership. The products are expensive, the terminology is confusing, and most of the “reviews” online are written by people who sell the equipment. We built the site we wished existed: a place where the first question is always “what’s in your water?” and the recommendations follow the test results, not the commission schedule.
Who writes the research
The site is researched and written by a small editorial team under the byline “Pure Whole House Team.” We don’t invent hands-on testing we didn’t do, and we don’t invent credentials we don’t have. What we do is read the manuals, the NSF and WQA certification listings, the EPA standards, and the lab methodology — then write it up in plain language, caveats included.
What we believe
- Don’t buy a filter until you know what you’re treating. A $200 lab test beats a $2,000 guess.
- A certification is more meaningful than a marketing claim. If a contaminant matters to you, look for the NSF/ANSI listing that covers it.
- Total cost matters more than purchase price. Media replacement, salt, electricity, and retesting decide the real number — price the decade, not the box.
- Honest limitations beat confident overselling. Every technology on this site has a scope section that says what it doesn’t do.
